ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA
This is one of the best gangster films of all time. Coincidentally, one of the first feature films I have seen as a child and that’s always stayed with me. This 229-minute film is Master Sergio Leone, famous Spaghetti Westerns like The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. The film has never won an Oscar because it was decided the film as two hour movie to run in cinemas. Only later on DVD has received his commercial success.
The film is about a Jewish gangster (again Robert DeNiro), which 30 years later, looking back on his life during Prohibition in New York.
CITY OF GOD – BRAZILIAN GANGSTER FILM
Or City of God Cidade de Deus is a South American blockbuster. It’s about two boys growing up in one of the most dangerous neighborhoods of the Brazilian capital Rio de Janeiro. However, they are a completely different path, is a photographer and the other a drug dealer. This Portuguese film was nominated for four Oscars and is on the 20th place on IMDB. It is equivalent to the highest ranked South American film.
